Gypsum is an evaporite mineral most commonly found in layered sedimentary deposits in association with halite, anhydrite, sulfur, calcite, and dolomite. Gypsum (CaSO 4. 2H 2 O) is very similar to Anhydrite (CaSO 4). The chemical difference is that gypsum contains two waters and anhydrite is without water. Gypsum is the most common sulfate mineral.

At the CCB, gypsum dune fields at Churince are extremely pure, and their δ 34 S values range from 14.6% to 15.9%, placing the main source of dissolved sulfate as evaporite strata of Middle Permian to Cretaceous ages (Szynkiewicz et al., 2010). The gypsum deposits of the CCB are the product of magmatic activity that occurred under the Tethys Sea.

Dec 08, 2015· Uncontrolled excess moisture in buildings is a common problem that can lead to changes in fungal communities. In buildings, moisture parameters can be classified by location and include assessments of moisture in the air, at a surface, or within a material. These parameters are not equivalent in dynamic indoor environments, which makes moisture-induced fungal growth in buildings …

At Gale crater occurrence of gypsum, bassanite, and anhydrite, sometimes in close association, suggests a fluid-limited system (limited as either brief wet environments or low water/rock ratio). Bassanite, poised between gypsum dehydration and anhydrite hydration, is more common, and more likely, on water-limited Mars than on wet Earth.
